PEMF Therapy
“The Sedona” Q&A
The Sedona is a PEMF therapy mat and pillow that is available to all guests at Ahhhsome Relaxation as a part of their regular membership. It has proven extremely beneficial for those suffering from autoimmune disorders, pain anywhere in the body, sleep problems and low energy. This page is a good place to start. We have a full book of information in the lounge to answer more of your questions.
What is PEMF Therapy?
PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field. Devices that utilize PEMF technology emit electromagnetic waves at different frequencies in order to stimulate and encourage your body’s natural recovery process. You’re probably wondering how PEMF technology can benefit your body when other electromagnetic fields - like those produced by microwaves and x-ray machines - can be harmful. According to Bulletproof, “frequency and duration make all the difference.” The waves created by PEMF devices occur in brief bursts and are very low frequency, like the electromagnetic waves found in nature. In fact, most waves involved in PEMF treatments have a lower frequency than you would be exposed to during a thunderstorm.
How does PEMF work?
It re-establishes normal cellular communication by producing a magnetic field that radiates in and around the body. It recharges the cells and brings them to a healthy frequency.
How Does PEMF Therapy Relieve Pain?
Your whole body, including skin, bones, and organs, is composed of cells. The membranes of healthy cells have positive and negative magnetic charges. These charges are required to exchange ions carrying chemical elements that your body needs to function, like calcium and potassium. Over time your cells deteriorate or get injured, and when that happens they lose their magnetic charges - and with them, the ability to exchange ions. Symptoms like inflammation, fatigue, and pain are caused by damaged cells with low charges. PEMF technology targets the affected area and restores cells’ healthy electromagnetic charges.
Is the Sedona like the Bemer?
While both the Bemer and the Sedona use the same basic science, PEMF. the Bemer system does not produce the same high level of Gauss as the Sedona, the Bemer also produces electrical smog or negative EMF. The Sedona produces a much higher level of Gauss and no electrical smog or negative EMF is given off.
What’s the difference between the blue belt and the Sedona?
The Blue Belt is not pulsed and has a steady frequency of 70 Kilohertz. The Sedona is pulsed and ranges in frequency from 1-15,000 Hertz. The blue belt uses a low electrical field whereas the Sedona uses an electromagnetic field. The Blue belt is an excellent grounding device and has a significant effect on those trying to detox. The Sedona is better for relaxation and pain. Please see the “Equipment Guide” in the lounge for more information.
What does applicator 1 and applicator 2 refer to?
Applicator 1 is the pillow. Applicator 2 is the body pad.
Does the pillow need to be positioned in a certain direction?
Yes, the minus sign on the pillow needs to be positioned towards the foot of the bed closest to the body. The pillow can be flipped over when putting it on top of your body, for example on your knee or shoulder.
Most common conditions treated with PEMF:
Pain, inflammation, low energy and sleep issues.
How quickly will I see results?
The Sedona is not a magic pill, and it depends on the severity of the condition. But we have had members begin to notice results after their first session up to a few weeks of treatments.
Can I use my phone, or wear my watch or Fitbit?
Yes. Because it is a magnetic field and not an electrical field it will not impact your electronics.
How do I know what program I should be using?
Ask a guest guide or refer to the binder next to the treatment bed for program recommendations for the issues you would like addressed.
Are there any side effects? How will I feel after?
Reported side effects typically are incredible relaxation, a surge of energy, better sleep and less pain. If you have had a recent surgery or injury you may feel some pain at the wound site. This is normal. When an injury is healing often we feel more pain in that injury location. The Sedona is assisting in the recovery of your body, it is speeding up the process. If your wound site pain is too much when you are on the Sedona either turn the frequency level down or use it for shorter lengths of time. A guest guide is always happy to help you decide what accommodations would be best for your body.
Do I change the intensity according to the frequency?
No, it adjusts automatically.
Where do you find information on the Sedona frequencies and recommendations?
The Sedona binder next to each bed and in the Sedona PEMF binder in the lounge.
Are there programs that are better for different times of the day?
Yes. We recommend only Relax programs after 5:00 pm. Wellness and Sport programs can give you an energy boost that can keep you awake late into the night if you use them too close to bedtime. Many guests however, do not have trouble sleeping after any of the treatment programs. After you experience the Sedona one or a few times you can make that decision for yourself.
Is PEMF therapy FDA approved?
Yes! For a few specific concerns it is. Please refer to the list below.
In 1979, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for the healing of nonunion fractures.
In 1998, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for urinary incontinence and muscle stimulation.
In 2004, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for cervical fusion patients at high-risk of non-fusion.
In 2006, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for treatment of depression and anxiety.
In 2011, the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for treatment of brain cancer.
On October 13th, 2015, the FDA reclassified PEMF devices from their existing Class 3 category to a Class 2 status, and most PEMF devices that are sold today in the United States are FDA registered as wellness devices.
Why is it called the Sedona?
It is named after Sedona Arizona. Many people go to the Sedona desert for healing in the many electromagnetic energy fields that naturally form there. The Sedona PEMF therapy creates similar electromagnetic fields so it seemed to be a good name for it.

About Red Light Therapy: 10-30 minutes Red light therapy is an every-day term for the science of photo biomodulation. NASA research has proven it to be effective for a wide range of healing and rejuvenating uses including anti-aging, hair loss prevention & regrowth, skin conditions, wound care, pain relief, and much more. It is a 100% natural therapy with zero side effects. And yes, it works! NASA has done extensive research into LED Red Light Therapy and its effects on the human body for pain, bone, joint and muscle health. We are so happy to offer unlimited red-light therapy for you here at Ahhhsome Relaxation.
What red light therapy is, depends on who you ask. There are two very different ways to look at it: first, from the viewpoint of Western traditional medicine; and second, from the viewpoint of Eastern, energy medicine.
Red Light Therapy & Western Medicine – Photobiomodulation
Western traditional medicine likes to deal with what we can measure in a lab and prove to the FDA. Once NASA came down with undeniable wound healing results from red light therapy, conventional medicine started paying attention. Over 10 years later, red light therapy has now been thoroughly researched and FDA approved for anti-aging and pain relief, with wound care applications soon to follow.
Western doctors and researchers often call red light therapy by other names such as:
· LLLT (low level laser or low level light therapy)
· LILT (low intensity light therapy)
· photobiostimulation
· photobiomodulation
· photonic stimulation
· photorejuvenation
Red Light Therapy & Eastern Medicine
Red light therapy is also used in Eastern medicine practices which focus on the energy systems of the body, specifically meridian points and chakra zones. For example, “Colorpuncture” uses a narrow beam of red light to stimulate acupuncture points instead of needles. A brand name “Photonic Light Therapy” does the same thing for animals. Red light therapy could also be called red color therapy and used to fuel overall vitality.
While western science and eastern medicine may not often agree, the facts remain: light is energy, and our body is energy. Red and infrared light energy penetrate deep into the body, and has profound effects in the hands of both western and eastern healing professionals alike. The good news is, it will likely have the same rejuvenating, healing and balancing effects in your hands as well, at a fraction of the cost here at Ahhhsome Relaxation.
